Easter Seals Charity Event

September 17, 2013

GUNNERS SHOW GRACE UNDER FIRE FOR A GREAT CAUSE September 12, 2013 (Brighton, CO) – A group aiming to support Easter Seals Colorado really hit the mark at the 10th Annual Classic Clay Shoot to benefit the nonprofit service Rocky Mountain Village camp. “You might say they were armed and generous,” said Easter Seals Colorado Development Director, Lisa Dokter. Thousands of shotgun cartridges were flying at the Colorado Clays facility in Brighton on August 16 where 142 shooters fired away at moving clay targets along a ten-station course. The daylong event raised an impressive $45,000 to support Rocky Mountain Village in Empire, Colorado, which is regarded as one of the top Easter Seals camps in the country. Each summer more than 800 children and adults with disabilities visit Rocky Mountain Village to enjoy activities like swimming, fishing, outdoor cooking, arts and crafts, hiking, horseback riding and a zip-line. “Campers come up to Rocky Mountain Village to get away and relax while giving their families some respite from daily care-giving. During the off-season, Rocky Mountain Village functions as a rental and retreat facility,” explained Dokter. Michael Rooney of Worldwide Rental Services and Chris Downs, Todd Bachman and Chris Whitley of Western Fleet Services have hosted this event for the past 10 years raising over $300,000 for Rocky Mountain Village. “This event helps send campers to this amazing camp where they are accepted for who they are, and their abilities and strengths are the focus, rather than their disabilities and challenges,” Rooney said. This year’s sporting clays event, which involved shooting at clay targets of various sizes flying at a variety of trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations and distances awarded first and second place prizes for top shooters.
